Beat the Streets (BTS) is a charitable organization encouraging resilient, confident and active youth across the Greater Toronto Area through sports and learning programs. BTS advances the education of children and youth by providing fun and unique development activities that build social-emotional, physical literacy and employability skills. Since 2014, BTS has impacted more than 20,000 students through its 4 programs: Level Up, You Grow Girl, Wrestle 4 Fun and Work it. 

With generous support from Canada Summer Jobs, BTS will be looking to expand its team over the summer. BTS is currently accepting applications for 12 summer positions from youth. BTS provides real-work experiences in a non-profit setting and teaches both hard and soft skills to help increase job readiness and help youth successfully transition from school to tomorrow’s workforce.  We are recruiting two social media community managers, two fundraising assistants, two research assistants and six summer camp facilitators. Available Positions

Social Media Community Manager (2 positions)

30 hours/week @ $15.00/hour

7 weeks ( July 4 - August 19)

Location: hybrid (home and office)

Client Services: engage with online commentators across all platforms; manage the social media calendar; assign, manage and collect articles from guest writers and other staff; and create and maintain database of testimonials from previous participants.

Team Work: work with other teams on campaigns, events, and activities; development and implementation of new youth program.

Communication: create daily content (write articles, photography, videos, interviews, etc.); develop and implement campaigns; design infographics; monitor and prepare weekly report on insights; proofread and edit all content; support execution of communications strategy activities; produce video content as required; write and promote media advisories; develop and deliver workshop on social-media best practices, develop and produce social-media guidelines.

Leadership: manage blog; coordinate all social media campaigns and work with other teams to launch campaigns and coordinate blog series; coordinate and produce video testimonial series (contacting past participants, scheduling and coordinating interviews, producing and publishing videos on social media and website). 

Digital skills: manage blogs and all social media accounts (Facebook, Instagram, website, Twitter); general tasks (writing, copy-editing, timekeeping, data entry, desktop publishing) related to their position; use online software to design and produce content (images, videos, promos, etc.); and use of Toggl, Slack, Canva, Google Docs, Sheets, Forms and Slides, Squarespace, Buffer, Grammarly & Mailchimp to complete activities.


Fundraising Assistant (2 Positions)

30 hours/week @ $15.00/hour

7 weeks ( July 4 - August 19)

Location: hybrid (home and office)

Client Services: contact with potential funders, writing inquiry emais and letters of inquiry; follow up with funders; and liaise with the Deputy Director to support the implementation of the fundraising strategy.

Team Work: work with other teams on campaigns, events, and activities to promote BTS activities; and development and implementation of new youth program.

Communication: research and analysis on trends in grants and funding in the GTA, Ontario and Canada; grant writing, produce social media content for donor recognition posts; produce blog post series on fundraising and BTS partners; responsible for thank you notes to donors; develop and deliver workshop on grant writing; and manage fundraising schedule and prepare weekly status reports.

Leadership: coordinate online and virtual fundraising events (assign tasks, planning, scheduling, logistics, timeline & reports); and oversee development of online fundraising campaign.

Digital skills: manage and weekly reports on new fundraising system (Micharity); updating donor database; sourcing new grants with Grant Connect & Grant Advance; identify and apply for online sponsorship opportunities;  general tasks (writing, copy-editing, reports, timekeeping, data entry, desktop publishing) related to their position; and use of Micharity, Grant Connect, Grant Advance, Toggl, Slack, Canva, Google Docs, Sheets, Forms and Slides, Squarespace, Buffer, Grammarly, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter & Mailchimp to complete activities.


Research Assistants (2 Positions)

30 hours/week @ $15.00/hour

7 weeks ( July 4 - August 19)

Location: hybrid (home and office)

Client Services: develop, administer and collect surveys from participants in summer programs; liaise with facilitators and coaches to discuss observational notes; liaise with development officer to review results and progress.

Team Work: work with other teams on campaigns, events, and activities; provide research support to all teams as needed; development and implementation of new youth program.

Communication: coordinate evaluation of summer programs; analyse and interpret data; create presentational charts and infographics to use in reports; produce social media content (blog series promoting BTS frameworks and programs); proposal writing, budgeting and creating work plans and timelines for programs; support fundraising activities with research and statistics; create resources & references website page for BTS; and produce report on summer camps.

Leadership: coordinate campaign with social media team to promote evaluation results; and coordinate, produce, publish and promote summer newsletter.

Digital skills: prepare BTS surveys and evaluation tools; collect and collate quantitative data of summer programs; assist in analysis and interpretation of data; prepare timeline and manage to ensure goals are met; update contact database; general administrative tasks (writing, copy-editing, reports, timekeeping, data entry, desktop publishing) related to the position; and use of Toggl, Slack, Canva, Google Docs, Sheets, Forms and Slides, Squarespace, Buffer, Grammarly, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter & Mailchimp to complete activities.

Research: research and analysis to support development of program curriculum and workshops; research and analysis to support new programs and partnerships; prepare needs assessments and environmental impacts; support policy development.


Summer Program Facilitators (6 Positions)

30 hours/week @ $15.00/hour

7 weeks ( July 4 - August 19)

Location: hybrid (home and office)

Client Services: support the Executive Director in delivering summer programs; foster an atmosphere of independence, confidence and mutual support; manage schedules and attendance; lead children (ages 4-12) in classes.

Team Work: work with other teams on campaigns, events, and activities; participate in fitness exercises and lead learning activities; support research team in evaluation process; and development and implementation of new youth program. 

Communication: promote summer programs; monitor form and activities of participants and provide guidance when needed; behavioural observations and note-taking each class and present weekly report to research team; produce social media content related to programs (e.g. testimonials, success stories, highlights); develop new games and activities to include in camps; and develop and deliver workshops on employment skills.

Leadership: develop, coordinate and launch “success stories” campaign (posts, images, videos) to showcase the outcomes of the summer programs.

Digital skills: edit fitness portion of videos, upload to Youtube and update website with content; general administrative tasks (writing, copy-editing, reports, timekeeping, data entry, desktop publishing) related to the position; and use of Toggl, Slack, Canva, Google Docs, Sheets, Forms and Slides, Squarespace, Buffer, Grammarly, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter & Mailchimp to complete activities.
