BTS Summer Job Highlights

After a great summer of learning new things, strengthening old skills, and making many new great memories the 2022 Beat The Streets summer jobs program has sadly come to an end. This summer the work it program presented youth ages 16-24 with the opportunity to obtain hard skills, soft skills and as well as transferable skills. Youth were offered jobs that allowed them to undertake Soft skills (SEL) such as accountability, responsibility, time management, collaboration and problem-solving and undertake Hard skills (Physical literacy) such as development, research and evaluation, digital content creation, data entry and analysis, managing social media, facilitating summer camps and creating reports. The end goal of the Work it program is to help students attain job readiness, resilience, confidence and hard & soft skills, for a smooth transition to the workforce. We also would love to give big thank you to Canada Summer Jobs for making the Work It program a reality and making programs like this possible.

The following infographic shows highlights from our summer jobs.

Quotes:

We were able to get comfortable and create friendships. Not only were we able to work better together, but Friday's game days were also so fun and made the work experience more enjoyable! - Milan

Beat The Streets has also been able to help guide me to get on the right path to complete many of my future goals in life whether it is school-related, job-related or even life-related. - Tyler

My first year working for Beat the Streets has taught me a plethora of different skills and has truly helped me to grow as a person. Whether it was calling different hotels and other organizations to ask for items for a raffle or starting to use and make google sheets, through my time here I have learned to be more confident and how to believe in myself.- Dilshan

Jessica and Neal were so helpful, and they really motivated me to push myself and do things I wanted to do, but didn’t think I could. I was able to learn a lot about myself during these meetings, and I got a lot of guidance for some of my personal goals outside of work.- Victoria

I learned from their words that if you really want something you must go full send and stop doubting yourself. Doubts and excuses stopping you from doing what you want is nothing more than a brick wall you build yourself. Now, I remind myself that nothing can stop me if I really want it. - Arwen
