Girl Power!

At Beat The Streets, our mission as a non-profitable youth development organization is to encourage the development of 8-18-year-olds in the GTA through wrestling programs. This year, in particular, our goal is to focus on our GIRLS and provide them with the opportunity to wrestle, participate in gymnastics, jiu-jitsu and yoga in Mississauga! Our vision is to increase the opportunities for GIRLS and WOMEN who either wrestle, want to wrestle, or simply want to participate in a movement to own their space, voice and sense of self. We are advocating for girls specifically because wrestling is a male-dominated sport since it began.

Girls aged 13 to 18 will have the opportunity to take part in our You Grow Girl pilot program. Through this campaign, we wish to see girls become more CONFIDENT and WALK INTO THEIR FUTURE  FEARLESSLY. We believe the You Grow Girl program will allow girls to BREAKTHROUGH THEIR SHELLS and find MOTIVATION AND INSPIRATION. The girls will develop their social and emotional skills through a variety of fun workshops and enjoyable fitness classes. The girls will learn to push themselves and be supported by other girls cheering them on. This program is a great way for girls to be a part of a respectable community. These young women will learn skills such as physical literacy, journaling, goal-setting, time management and healthy habits that can remain ingrained for life by showing up at workshops and fitness classes.

Our goal for this program is to definitely GROW THE SPORT FOR FEMALE ATHLETES! We as an organization want to support 30 young ladies in their future and see adolescent girls becoming resilient and confident while possessing emotional and social strengths and have better chances of success.

Social and cultural obstacles interfere with girls improving their skills, experiences and relationships. In Mississauga, 52% of neighbourhoods are considered low-income. This program allows young girls in Mississauga to participate and take part in fun activities that they can learn from.

Overall, our organization truly wants the best for young females looking to join the sport of wrestling. We are hoping to provide for and impact the lives of 30 participants by introducing them to a variety of fun workshops and enjoyable fitness classes. This will give them the chance to learn to push themselves and be SUPPORTED BY OTHER GIRLS CHEERING THEM ON. This program is a great way for girls to be a part of a respectable community. Here at Beat The Streets we are all for GIRL POWER!
