Today I will be talking about 5 things I do to get ready for a big tournament/ my morning routine before a big tournament. I do many things during the morning to get ready for a big tournament but these are definitely my main or most important 5.

#1 Get up as soon as the alarm goes off to get moving and stretch.

As soon as I hear my alarm and wake up I immediately get up and start moving. I do this because it gets my blood flowing right away and will stop me from becoming tired and wanting to lay in bed. I will also slowly stretch so I can feel loose and any muscle that is in pain can loosen out before the tournament begins. Something that helps keep me up and makes me be sure I won’t fall back asleep is I will have music on to keep me going and wake me up.

2# Packing my bag

The next thing I do is pack my bag. My bag usually consists of 5 main items such as my wrestling shoes, extra singlet, water, something to record my matches, and an extra shirt. These are all important items for me to have in my bag wrestling shoes so I can wrestle, and extra singlet in case I need to change colours, water for half time, something to record my matches so I can review them afterward and an extra shirt in case of blood or if one gets sweaty while warming up.

3# Driving to the tournament

The next big part of my day is driving to the tournament of course. While driving to the tournament to stay hyped up and loose I will listen to music while also watching videos of my old matches. I do this because I feel like watching the videos makes me feel like I’m ready and gives me ideas for what moves to do during warm-up and see what I can do better in my next matches.

4# Warming up

To warm up I will usually jog around for a little bit to get a sweat going then I will practice my basics of technique. Once done doing the technique I will begin to do situations or wrestle my training partner that way we can get a good amount of technique in and break a good sweat for the tournament.

5# Talk to my coaches

This meeting will usually happen about 10-15 minutes before the tournament starts. During this meeting, we will usually discuss mat and match numbers, our opponents, and our strategies and plan to go into the tournament. These meetings help me get ready for the tournament because that will make sure the coaches will be ready and therefor my match. Talking over the strategies also helps me because it gives me a mindset of what to do during the match.

This is my morning routine for every big tournament I have these five things are what help me stay ready to go on the mat every tournament and compete the way I want to be able too. Let us know your morning routines in the comments.
